Carriers, port operators, terminals, technology, equipment and service suppliers for the port-maritime industry were united for three days at the TOC Americas event in Lima, Peru, to learn about the latest news in the regional market, sharing views and projections to create the fundamental discussion on the industry’s development.
In the event’s 17-year history, Lima debuted as host, delighting attendees with its rich combination of hospitality and professionalism. Delegates, speakers and exhibitors alike were able to appreciate in situ the richness of the port of Callao, which is operated by two of the largest international operators: APM Terminals and DP World. Also, the National Port Authority –APN- also acted as host, showing attendees the potential of the largest multipurpose port in the Southern Cone.
As it is now tradition at TOC Americas, the Container Supply Chain –CSC- conference gathered the most relevant issues that are redifining container transport logistics. With presentations from maritime consultancy agency Drewry and analysis on port infrastructure by ECLAC expert, the discussion revolved around ship-to-shore operations, optimizing port design and reducing accidents, along with analyzing the industry’s performance and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Exhibition and TECH TOC
One of the most attractive points on the TOC Americas conference is the free exhibition with stands from companies that provide products and services for the port and maritime transport industry. That is where the most modern technologies that add value to terminal operation and cargo handling are showcased. World reknowned brands such as Kalmar, Liebherr and Hyster shared space with international operators such as DP World and APM Terminals, along with Siemens, Portek, Bromma, among others.
Within the exhibition, the TECH TOC presentations allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the current technological debate. The free presentations ended with an interesting role play called “Port of the Future”, lead by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Peru, which intended to submerge the participants in hipothetic high-stress decision-making situations for sustainable development of their ports.
Innovation 2017: TOC Bulk and interactive app
The most recent version of the conference had two important innovations: the introduction of the BULK sessions and the use of a mobile app for real-time direct interaction between TECH TOC speakers and the audience. Both were succesful in their debut.
TOC Americas 2018 will be held November 13-15 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Panama. For more information on participating as delegate, speaker or exhibitor, please contact Víctor Gallardo: firstname.lastname@example.org
