SAAM Puertos (Chile) and Terminal Zárate S.A. (Argentina), signed a MOU with the Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) to develop a Ro-Ro vehicle terminal in the port of Mobile.

MundoMaritimo had exclusive access to a joint press release where the two companies informed that the facilities will have a capacity of handling 21,000 vehicles each year. The agreement considers operating the terminal for 30 years, starting end- 2019.

Lyons, said that the agreement "represents a key step forward in the diversification of the Alabama State Port Authority business and, at the same time, it is a strategic link between automotive terminals and shipping lines." For Yurik Díaz, manager fir SAAM Puertos, "this agreement is an opportunity to work with Terminal Zárate and ASPA, bringing our expertise and know-how into the business, as well as continuing to consolidate our position in the regio." President of Terminal Zárate S.A., Roberto Murchison, believes that the project will allow Grupo Murchison and Terminal Zárate to continue growing in new markets, diversifying business lines by partnering with SAAM fir the AutoMobile Terminal in the State of Alabama."

ASPA began the tender process in 2016, looking for partners to develop and operate vehicle terminal, a growing need for the increasing volume of export/import of automobiles manufactured in the USA and the Golf of Mexico.

The fecilities will operate on a Roll on- Roll off fashion, with pre delivery processes and on site automotive logistics within a 23 hectare platform and a 12.2 meter deep dock. The terminal is strategically located in an area connected to the main five Class I rail lines covering most of the United States territory and certain locations in Canada.
