Promptly at 09.00 hours the seventeenth version of the container and terminal operations conference TOC Americas began, debuting for the first time in its history in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
The fishing and aquaculture viceminister and representative for the production ministry of the National Port Authority, Héctor Soldi Soldi, gave a warm welcome to the attendees in representation of Bruno Giuffra, minister of transport and communications who could not attend the conference.
Edgar Patiño Garrido, president of the national port authority APN, gave the official kick-off for the Container Supply Chain conference, with focus on the current and future business of containerized cargo logistics. Patiño’s presentation, called “Supply chain challenges for Peru”, addressed the port of Callao’s opportunities for improvement in order to consolidate as one of the key trading powers in the Southern Cone west coast.
Dynamic activities is TOC Americas main characteristic. While the CSC presentations discuss ship-to-shore operations, such as reducing accidents to boost performance, coastal engineering considerations in the design of marine terminals for optimizing operations and design optimization of container yard in Panama for improved operations and capital investment savings, there are other activities going on in parallel.
The CSC conference also provides an opportunity to discuss and analize the industry’s performance and how the study and interpretation of information can lead to important business insight. Drewry Maritime Advisors director Dinesh Sharma, presented a detailed analysis on worldwide containerized trade. ECLAC port infrastructure expert Ricardo Sánchez was also at the inaugural presentation, talking abut projections on containerized trade, raw materials and energy.
Parallel to the container supply chain conference, the exhibition unites all the main actors and suppliers of the maritime transport and port operations industry, who under the same roof offer all of the products and services that make for a complete operation of the industry.
Also, within the exhibition are the TECH TOC presentations, a free parallel conference focused on relevant technological issues in the port and maritime transport business. During the three days of the event will discuss equipment maintenance, next generation technology and automation, digitalization and innovation, clean technologies, digital innovation, among other topics.
The TOC Americas 2017 conference is held in the Westin hotel & convention center in Lima, Peru, October 17 -19.
